Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (Dutch 1821-1909) is best known for her charming pet portraits. This one is titled 'A kitten with a ball of wool' and shows a small kitten with a yarn skein half the size of itself. The kitten has placed both its paws on the yarn and is looking straight at the spectator as if to say: Can I play with the yarn please?
